The Afghanistan Football coach Petar Segrt has said the final match of South Asia Football Federation (SAFF) Championship final between Afghanistan and India ‘will be a new day for both teams’, insisting that we have to win it for the people of Afghanistan.
Segrt further added that Afghanistan will not take the Indian team lightly, admitting that “The Indian Team is very strong and I have the utmost respect of their Coach, Players and all the staff.”
Both India and Afghanistan are undefeated in SAFF Suzuki Cup with Afghanistan having played 3 matches in Group B of the tournament and India 2 matches in Group A.
Afghanistan appeared against Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the tournament, carrying 9 points from Group matches and defeated them 5-0.
However, India appeared against Maldives in the first match of the semi-finals with a record of 6 points from 2 matches and easily defeated them 3-2.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan coach said the final match of the tournament is what matters. “This is what matters. The Finals is what matters. Nobody cares if we won all our games in the Group Stages. The Final is what we came for and we have to win it for the people of Afghanistan,” Segrt quoted in local media reports said.
He also insisted that the Afghan team needs to remain focused and will have to give out cent percent on the pitch in a bid to win the final against India. -KP
