US military advisors have started training the so-called ‘moderate rebels’ in Syria, media reports claimed. The move represents a U-turn around from Obama’s 2013 declaration not to put any “American boots on the ground in Syria.”
The report cites a military source stating that American military advisors have already landed in Syria and are training “moderate rebels” near the city of Salma, located in the western province of Latakia.
“American officers began the training of Turkmen militants around Salma in Latakia province,”.
However, it’s not yet clear whether the United States would come out of its isolated Middle East policy stupor and respond to Russian overtures into the regions positively. Current pronouncements by Obama administration seem more like knee jerk reaction then international diplomacy.
