The Taliban militants attempted to shift the Quetta Council to southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan (MoD) said Thursday.
Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Ministry of Afghanistan (MoD), said the attempts by the enemies of Afghanistan (Taliban) was thwarted by the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
The leadership councils of the Taliban group and the notorious Haqqani terrorist are believed to be based in Peshawar and Quetta cities of Pakistan as the Afghan officials have long been demanding from Pakistan to take actions against the sanctuaries of the terror groups acting against Afghanistan.
The observers believe the latest upheavals have forced the militant to rethink about shifting their leadership councils to Afghanistan amid growing international pressure on Pakistan, specifically following the death of top terror leaders, including the Al Qaeda network leader Osama Bin Bin Laden, Mullah Mohammad Omar and Mullah Akhtar Mansoor who was recently killed in Balochistan province of Pakistan.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani asked Pakistan to take actions against the leadership councils of the Afghan militants in Peshawar and Quetta cities late in the month of April.
The demand by President Ghani was made following a deadly attack in Kabul city which left at least 64 people dead and 347 others wounded.
The Afghan officials blamed the Haqqani network based in Pakistan for plottign and coordinating the attack.
President Ghani warned to take the issue to the international organizations, including the UN security council if Pakistan failed to take actions against the militant groups-KP
