Spanta warns political stability under threat

spantaHERAT CITY: Former national security advisor Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta has said inappropriate policies of the incumbent government had raised concerns about political instability and fear of escalation in war.

Also a former foreign minister, Spanta said he would render all possible sacrifices but would not allow the Pakistani establishment to influence Afghanistan’s foreign policy or meddle in its internal affairs.

Speaking at the residence of Mohammad Ismail Khan, former jihadi leader and minister on Monday night, he alleged most achievements of the past decades had been reversed over the last two years by the unity government.

Ismail Khan had invited key members of the Karzai administration to dinner at his home in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province.

Spanta assailed the Ghani-led government and countries such as the United States for following weak and ambiguous policies. As a consequence, he said the sitting government had weakened and there were concerns about political instability.

He said the nation had rendered scarifies for liberating the country from Soviet and British occupation. In case of need, he added, the Afghans would defend their motherland and frustrate Islamabad’smeddling.

Former energy and water minister Ismail asked the nation to stand united against all threats and protect the government system. He reiterated his resolve to keep Taliban from destabilising the country. -Pajhwok
