Earlier the provincial Assembly member from ANP Jaffar Shah and the provincial parliamentarian from PPP Nighat Orakzai had tabled a resolution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly, proposing the establishment of a university in the province after the name of Pashtun Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai.

However, today the proposal was rejected by the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dr. Khadim Hussain, Director Bacha Khan Education Foundation, told The Pashtun Times that the resolution that requested tribute to Malala Yousufzai and establishing a university in her name was presented by members of the ANP and PPP. The PTI and JI members of the Assembly who are in majority blocked the resolution today. They had done the same once before as well. I would like to say that first PTI and JI have been all along supporting the narrative of organizations that are engaged in extremist violence in the Pashtun belt, hence they would always like to placate those organizations by rejecting Malala Yousuzai who stands for right to education. Second, as PTI and JI usually toe the establishment line, they have all along rejected a Nobel Laureate daughter of the Pashtun land.

Dr. Khadim Hussain further told that the PTI led Pakhtunkhwa govt banned ‘I am Malala’, then their members eulogised Taliban in the assembly. Now they blocked resolution of tribute to Malala and establishing a university in her name in Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
