UZBEKISTAN: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with his Pakistani counterpart Mamnoon Hussain in Uzbekistan on Friday afternoon to discuss the latest upheavals in the bilateral relations between the two nations.
The Office of the President said President Ghani met President Mamnoon Hussain before concluding an official visit to Uzbekistan.
The two sides openly discussed the latest issues and tensions and agreed for the formation of an effective political and technical mechanism to assess the current issues and prevent it in the future.
This comes as bloody clashes took place between the Afghan and Pakistani forces in Torkham earlier this month which resulted to the closure of the crossing for several days.
Tensions between the two sides heightened following the construction of a gate by Pakistani side in Torkham which the Afghan officials opposed, calling it a provocative move and violation of an agreement regarding the Durand Line.
Several security personnel lost their lives during the clashes including a senior Pakistani major as the Afghan border guards prevented the Pakistani side to construct the gate.
The Afghan officials are saying that work on any establishment along the zero point of Durand Line should be done with an understanding with the Afghan officials. -KP
