KABUL: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday said Afghanistan remained their largest operation and the alliance was committed to assisting Afghan forces to secure their country.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the alliance summit in Warsaw, Stoltenberg said they would support the Afghan forces to ensure Afghanistan never again became a safe haven for international terrorism.
“We will continue our Resolute Support mission beyond 2016 and we will continue our contribution to the funding of the Afghan forces until 2020,” he said, adding President Asrhaf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah will join the NATO heads of states in Warsaw.
The NATO chief said they would demonstrate support to partners in the east and would hold a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission with President Poroshenko.
They would also continue to boost the defence capacity and resilience of Georgia and the Republic of Moldova to resist outside pressure and to advance reforms.
