KABUL: The former Afghan President Hamid Karzai thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for birthday wishes, saying ‘The Afghan People look forward to welcome you.’
The Indian Prime Minister tweeted earlier today and wished the former Afghan President on the occasion of his 58th Birthday.
“Dear @KarzaiH, wishing you a very Happy Birthday. I pray that Almighty blesses you with a long life & good health,” the Twitter message by the Indian Prime Minister reads.
Modi is expected to visit capital Kabul on Friday for the inauguration of the new Afghan parliament building built with the financial support of the Indian government.
Karzai was born on 24th December in Karz district of southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan and served as the Afghan President from 2004 to 2014.
Karzai also served as the chairman of the Interim Administration for a period of six months after he was elected by prominent Afghan political figures in 2001.
He was once again chosen as the Interim President of Afghanistan during the 2002 Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly) organized in capital Kabul. -KP
