Islamabad: Pakistan Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) official arrested for sexually harassing Afghan woman

fia isbISLAMABAD: A senior Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) official has been arrested on the charge of sexually harassing an Afghan woman at the Islamabad airport.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, irked by the FIA assistant director’s misbehavior with the Afghan lady, immediately suspended him and ordered an an inquiry into the incident.

A spokesperson of the Interior Ministry quoted Nisar as ordering the arrest under the relevant law. Nisar also directed FIA officials to treat people with respect, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.

According to the first information report (FIR), the Afghan woman accused the official of sexually harassing her at the airport when she, along with her sister, arrived there from Afghanistan.

They were allegedly taken by FIA officials to a secluded room at the airport, where they were forced to wait for five hours. Later, the officials removed the victim’s sister from the room on the pretext of stamping her visa.

Subsequently, the accused entered the room and attempted to assault the complainant, who said she managed to flee the scene after raising an alarm. Other airport staffers laughed at her plight.

Police arrested the accused after examining CCTV footage and confirming the victim’s account. The detainee will be produced before a magistrate today (Friday).
