Instrumental use of terror is not in the favor of any nation, Karzai tells Pak ambassador

Karzai-meets-Pak-ambassadorKABUL: The former Afghan President Hamid Karzai met with the Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan as the two sides discussed the current situation in the region.

The Office of the former President in a statement said the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai met with the Ambassador of Pakistan Mr. Zahid Nasrullah Khan in his office on Monday.

The statement further added that the two sides discussed the Afghan peace process during their meeting.

Karzai said the instrumental use of terrorism is not in the favor of any nation as he insisted that a peace, stable, and sovereign Afghanistan will be for the interest of Pakistan as well as the region.

This comes as relations between Kabul and Islambad have been at all time low during the recent years mainly due to the circumstances surrounding the fight against the terrorism.

The Afghan officials have long been insisting that the Afghan militant leaders in Pakistan has direct links with the persistent violence in Afghanistan.

The pressures by Washington on Pakistan regarding the safe havens of the terror groups are also on the rise after the announcement of the new strategy by US President Donald Trump last month.

President Trump said  “For its part, Pakistan often gives safe haven to agents of chaos, violence, and terror.  The threat is worse because Pakistan and India are two nuclear-armed states whose tense relations threaten to spiral into conflict.  And that could happen.”

He said the next pillar of the new strategy is to change the approach and how to deal with Pakistan, emphasizing that we can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organizations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond, emphasizing that Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan.  It has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals and terrorists. -KP
