KABUL: The 50-overs match between Afghanistan and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has ended in a draw due to rain at Lord’s in London on Tuesday.
MCC won the toss and elected to bat first in the encounter, which had to be reduced to 40 overs. The hosts set to the Afghans a target of 217 for the loss of six wickets.
For Afghanistan, Shahpoor Zadran was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. Gulbadin Naib bagged two wickets while spin prodigy Rashid Khan had to be content with one.
As the visitors reached 31 for the loss of one wicket, heavy rain took place again and the match had to be abandoned. Noor Ali Zadran got out for 11 while Javed Ahmadi scored an unbeaten 13 and Nasir Jamal four.
Thousands of Afghan fans came from England and other European countries to watch the match. Shapoor entertained 8000 fans to a display of bold cricket.
He shone with the ball through the intermittent rain on Afghanistan’s debut at Lord’s, the standout performance on a festive but frustrating day that ended with no result.
