Afghanistan cricket team to receive hero’s welcome in Jalalabad city


The Afghanistan national cricket will receive another hero’s welcome in Jalalabad city the provincial capital of eastern Nangarhar province today.

A major event has been organized to welcome the Afghan team who won the hearts of the Afghan people with their impressive performance in World Twenty20.

The event will include speech by high level government officials, folkloric Atan dance, fireworks and other musical shows.

The Afghan team received a warm welcome upon their arrival from India in Kabul last week where thousands gathered in the stadium to greet them for their world cup performance.

The Afghan team started the World Cup campaign with thrilling performance in the qualifying group stage where they secured consecutive wins in the first three matches against Scotland, Hong Kong and Zimbabwe.

They started campaign in the Super 10 of the World Cup along with the leading international teams, including Sri Lanka, England, South Africa and West India following their back to back wins in the qualifying group.

Afghanistan lost their first match in Super 10 to title defending champions Sri Lanka but they were on the verge of giving an upset to South Africa and England as they lost the two matches narrowly and with less difference of 37 and 15 runs.

However, the passionate Afghan team remained committed in creating a history in their World Cup campaign and managed to defeat the strong West Indies team by 6 runs in their last match on Sunday. -KP
