AFGHANISTAN: The 5-year-old kid from Afghanistan, Murtaza Ahmadi, has received signed shirts from football star Lionel Messi, almost a month after charming the internet with a shirt prepared from plastic.
According to UNICEF in Afghanistan, the football star helped make the dream of the kid come true.
The picture of Murtaza went viral last month shortly after it was uploaded on Facebook social media website last week, triggering a quest online to find him.
The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) said last month it has contracted with Lion Messi, the world football star, and it will soon arrange Messi’s meeting with Murtaza.
However, no further developments were reported until UNICEF tweeted a picture of Murtaza today wearing a shirt signed by Messi.
Hailing from the restive southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, Murtaza’s story attracted global attention after his photographs and videos went viral with his story reflected in major international media outlets.
His father, Arif, said the original photo of Murtaza wearing the plastic shirt was taken by his oldest son Hamayon who published them on his Facebook page. The family live in the Jaghori District, in the eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan. -KP
