KABUL: Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov has expressed concern over security situation in the southern border with Afghanistan, a media report said on Friday.
According to Sputnik report the Uzbek president during a Security Council meeting discussed deteriorated security situations in neighboring Afghanistan and its spillover effects on the country’s southern border.
The presidential services said the meeting which was chaired by the president stressed over improved security and addressing the challenges in the southern border.
The meeting also discussed upon strengthening an anti-terror cooperation with the regional countries.
The meeting was attended by government officials and heads of relevant departments.
Afghanistan is the source of concern since the country has been in a state of political and social turmoil, as it continues to fight Taliban insurgency. Other extremist groups, such as the Islamic State terrorist group, outlawed in many states worldwide including Russia, have expanded their activities in the country. -Pajhwok
