Some 100 killed, wounded in two traffic accidents

road-accidentKABUL: Nearly 100 people were killed and wounded in two separate traffic incidents in western Farah and Nimroz provinces, local officials said Sunday.

The first accident took place early morning when a bus collided with a truck in the Gulistan district of Farah province, said Ajmal Zahid, district governor.

“At least 14 people died and 45 others were wounded in the accident,”

Separately, at least four people died and 36 others wounded following another accident in the adjacent province of Nimroz, provincial officials said.

“The accident happened late Saturday after a passenger bus overturned in Chakhansur district,” Ahmad Arab, provincial governor’s spokesman said.

“Women and children were also among those killed and wounded in the accident.”

It is mention worth that at least 38 people were killed and 28 were injured after a fuel tanker collided with a bus carrying over 60 passengers on the dangerous Kabul-Kandahar highway in Zabul province earlier September. It came after an even larger incident that occurred on the same highway in May.

High speed, carelessly driving and out of standard roads are basic reasons behind deadly traffic accidents in the country.
