The new Afghan Ambassador to Indonesia Roya Rahmani took over duties by presenting her credentials to the country’s president during a special ceremony attended by the Ambassadors of seven other countries.
According to a statement released by the Embassy of Afghanistan in Indonesia, Ms Rahmani presented her credentials to the Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday.
The other Ambassadors who presented their credentials to the Indonesian President included the Serbian Ambassador, East Timor Ambassador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Botswana, and Litvania.
The statement further added that the Indonesian President has stressed on maintaining diplomatic relations with the countries which have appointed new Ambassadors to Indonesia.
The Afghan Ambassador Roya Rahmani in her turn has emphasized that Afghanistan values the diplomatic relations with Jakarta which is one of the major Muslim countries.
Ms Rahmani further added that Afghanistan is keen to improve bilateral relations between the countries in various sectors including economy, education and skill building.
The appointment of Ms Rahmani as the new Afghan Ambassador to Indonesia comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani vowed to give more share to women in the leadership of diplomatic missions outside the country.
The Afghan lawmaker Shukria Barekzai was earlier appointed as the Afghan Ambassador to Norway and took over duties last year. -KP
