RAWALPINDI (Monitoring Desk): Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Friday that every ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) will be responded to with full force and in an effective manner.
The newly appointed army chief was briefed in detail about the prevailing security situation along LoC in view of the recent violations and escalation by Indian troops and Pakistan’s response. Gen Bajwa said that India’s ‘aggressive posture’ solely aimed to divert the world’s attention from the atrocities being committed by their troops in held Kashmir.
He stressed that the core issue of Kashmir will have to be resolved between the two countries, in line with UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of the valley, for lasting peace in the region. Further, Gen Bajwa lauded the efforts of the troops for their operational readiness and befitting response given to unprovoked Indian firing in violation of the ceasefire agreement. He further directed them to keep highest level of vigil at all times.
Earlier, Commander 10 Corps Lt Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal received the army chief at the Corps Headquarters and later accompanied him during the visit to LoC. Frequent incidents of cross-border fire are being witnessed since a heightened situation in occupied Kashmir. More than 100 protesters have lost their lives to the security forces in the valley while dozens blinded by use of pellet guns.
The two countries have been at loggerheads since the killing of a populist rebel leader Burhan Wani by the Indian forces in the valley on July 8. -TP
