Pakistani forces fire rockets into Dand-i-Patan district

GARDIZ : Pakistani security forces have fired dozens of rockets into the Dand-i-Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, an official claimed on Monday.

Raz Mohammad Mandozai, a border police commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News theTaliban militants launched attacks on Pakistani border forces in the district last night.

He said the Pakistani border guards fired 30 rockets into Dand-i-Patan district in retaliationfor the Taliban attack.The rockets fired from Parachinar area landed in different parts of the district.

“No one suffered casualties in the incident,” he said, adding the issue had been shared withAfghanistan, Pakistan, the US coordination centre and senior officials in Kabul.

Noor Ali, a resident of the Qimati area of Dand-i-Patan, said: “We could not sleep a wink last night due to prolonged rocket strikes from Pakistan into our area. Fortunately, no one was killed or wounded.”

He asked the government to prevent Pakistani attacks.

MaqboolDawar, spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban, confirmed attacking Pakistani forces last night.He claimed a military base and a border post were torched and 10 soldiers killed.

Dand-i-Patan is a border district of Paktia province, which has witnessed a string of fierce clashes between the Taliban and Afghan forces.

Pakistani forces have fired rockets into Kunar, Nangarhar, Khost, Nuristan and a number of other districts in the past. -Pajhwok
