While opposing FATA merger into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or any other part of Pakistan, Achakzai said any development regarding fate of FATA must be done in the light of agreements between the people of FATA and British India. He added FATA is an independent and sovereign territory, not a regular part of Pakistan as per Independence Act and agreements with the British India.
“FATA people have Afghan nature and historically they had always considered Afghanistan as their own country,” Achakzai noted.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai further went on saying that implementation of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be impossible until durable and stability in Afghanistan.
It comes at times when Pakistan is set to merge FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Some political parties, including Awami National Party, Muslim League, Pakistan People’s Party and Tahreek-e-Insaf are struggling for FATA merger. On the other hand, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and majority of FATA people have dismissed the government plan of FATA merger.
A large number of FATA people have repeatedly called on the international community to install the United Nations (UN) led Administration in FATA and provide an opportunity to its people to hold a representative Jirga (Dialogue) under the UN to decide FATA fate and as well to win war on terror. According to them, fate of FATA could only be decided under the shelter of United Nations.
