Kabul attack rises to 80 dead, 231 wounded: Afghan Ministry of Interior

Kabul-attack-2KABUL: The deadly Kabul attack toll has increased to at least 80 dead and 231 wounded, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.

According to a statement by MoI, the incident took place around 2:30 pm due to suicide attack among the demonstration participants in Deh Mazang area.

The statement further added that the terrorists managed to use the opportunity for another bloodshed despite the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) put all efforts in place to maintain security for the demonstration.

According to MoI, the attack was carried out by three suicide bombers as the first bomber managed to detonate his explosives, the second bomber failed to carry out the attack and the third bomber was shot dead.

MoI said several security personnel including the district police chief of police district 1, police district 3 and police district 6 were among those killed or wounded.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has claimed responsibility behind a deadly attack in capital Kabul that left scores of people dead.

According to a short statement posted by the pro-ISIS website, Amaq Agency, the attack was carried out by two suicide bombers of the terror group.

The statement further added that the two ISIS militants detonated their explosie belts amid a Shiite gathering in the Deh Mazang area in Kabul.

The incident took place as hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the area to protest against the implementation of TUTAP project via Salang pass. -KP
