Economy Minister Abdul Sattar Murad, currently on a visit the neighbouring country, met the Chabahar Free Zone managing director and other officials in Sistan-Balochistan province.
The state-run Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted Murad as saying Afghanistan was a country rich in iron, chromite, coal, precious stones and oil. But due to war over the past three decades, the landlocked country could not exploit its natural wealth.
Afghan businessmen are hugely enthusiastic about using the Chabahar Port andmaking investments in it, according to the visiting minister, who called the port the closest transit route for Afghan exports.
Chabahar could help Afghanistan come out of economic stagnation in the near future, he hoped, commending the port’s security, infrastructures and interaction with the Iranian officials. -S.Muddasir Ali Shah, Pajhwok
