Four dead bodies have been evacuated to a near hospital, Public Health Ministry spokesman, Wahid Mujrooh, said a few hours earlier. Another 22 people were injured, he said.
One security official at the scene said at least eight people had been killed and 25 others wounded in the attack. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Area people said the explosion was so powerful that it was heard several kilometres from the site, which was being cleared by the security personnel.
One eyewitness Ihsanullah told Pajhwok Afghan News he had seen a number of casualties lying on the road. The site, however, was cordoned off.
Another eyewitness Asmatullah said the explosion took place at the 100 metres from him. Soon afterward people started running pell-mell, h added.
“I saw several bloodied people on the road. I saw 12 bodies and 10 wounded people, including a woman.” Windowpanes in houses, restaurants and shops in the area were shattered, he said. -Pajhwok
